YouTube Dual Subtitles

Learn languages on YouTube with dual subtitles (also called dual captions) right on youtube.com.

Dual subtitles show two lines at once: the language you're studying, and a helper translation underneath. DuoNinja adds that to YouTube through a free Chrome extension, so you can keep watching on youtube.com while building vocabulary in one study account.

How YouTube dual subtitles work in DuoNinja

Install the extension and open YouTube. The DuoNinja Chrome extension adds dual subtitle controls to the YouTube player. Turn dual mode on and you'll see the study language plus a helper line while the video plays.

Match your DuoNinja course. Sign in so DuoNinja can use your course languages for the helper line. Logged-out viewers can still see the idea of dual subtitles; signing in unlocks the full helper caption for your course.

Look up words and save vocabulary. Click words in the subtitles to look them up and save meanings into DuoNinja. Those words connect with flashcards, reading, and the rest of your study, not just the video you watched.

Customize per course. Adjust font size and background transparency so dual subtitles stay readable on any video. Settings are saved per course and language, so Spanish and Japanese can look different without redoing your prefs every time.

Study videos in DuoNinja too. Prefer a curated catalog? Watch & Listen inside DuoNinja organizes videos by topic and still connects captions with vocabulary and practice.
